Sainte-Chapelle Tickets 2026
Adult tickets from €22. The stained glass takes your breath away — the Palais de Justice security queue is the part no one warns you about. Here's how to handle both.
You climb a narrow stone staircase, push open a door, and the Upper Chapel stops you. The walls have disappeared — replaced by 670 square metres of stained glass, floor to ceiling, saturated in blue and red.
The chapel sits inside the Palais de Justice: airport security for everyone, pre-booked ticket or not. That queue is the detail most guides skip.
How much are Sainte-Chapelle tickets in 2026?
Prices changed 12 January 2026. Standard adult (non-EEA): €22. EEA nationals/residents: €16. Combined with Conciergerie: €30 (non-EEA) / €23 (EEA) — saves roughly €4 versus two singles.
Free: under 18, EU nationals 18–25, disabled visitors. Free 1st Sunday Nov–Mar only (not all year). No reservation required on those Sundays.
Paris Museum Pass: valid, but you still need a timed slot.
Where to book
Our take: Official is cheapest at €22 for Sainte-Chapelle alone; GetYourGuide's €25 combined ticket adds the Conciergerie next door with free cancellation — and neither bypasses the Palais de Justice security queue.
The Sainte-Chapelle guide — read the windows in 45 minutes
- Which window tells the story of Louis IX carrying the Crown of Thorns to Paris himself
- The two royal alcoves where king and queen stood — and what to notice in their carved canopies
- Where to stand for the rose window at its best, and why afternoon changes everything
Is Sainte-Chapelle worth visiting?
Louis IX spent 135,000 livres on the Crown of Thorns and 40,000 building the chapel to house it. The math tells you something about priorities. The Upper Chapel replaced stone walls with glass — 15 windows plus a rose window, c.1242–1248, roughly two-thirds original 13th-century work. Most visitors spend 30–45 minutes in the Upper Chapel. Add 15 minutes for the Lower Chapel.
What to look for in the windows
Read bottom to top. Each window is a vertical manuscript page. The narrative starts at the base; most visitors scan from the top and reverse the story.
Find Louis IX in the Relics window (south wall, westernmost bay). The only nave window depicting a living person — Louis, barefoot, carrying the Crown of Thorns into Paris in 1239.
Stand in front of the Passion window (east apse, centre). Theological centre of the programme; afternoon light is richest.
Find the royal alcoves (third traverse, north and south walls). Where king and queen stood during services. Most visitors walk past.
What do most visitors wish they knew about Sainte-Chapelle?
The security queue is separate from the ticket queue. Pre-booking bypasses the ticket desk, not the Palais de Justice security checkpoint. Glass bottles, scissors, and bulky luggage are prohibited — confiscated and not returned. No cloakroom. Leave bags at luggage storage near Châtelet.
The rose window is two and a half centuries younger than the other 15. Installed in the late 15th century, 89 Apocalypse panels, cleaned in 2014–2015. Afternoon sun hits it directly; morning visitors often see it in shadow.
Combine with the Conciergerie. Combined ticket saves ~€4. Two hours covers both; last entry at the Conciergerie is 17:15.

Frequently asked questions
How much are Sainte-Chapelle tickets in 2026?
€22 for standard adults (non-EEA); €16 for EU/EEA nationals and residents. Combined ticket with the Conciergerie: €30 (non-EEA) or €23 (EEA). Free for under 18s, EU nationals 18–25, and disabled visitors. The first Sunday of the month is free November–March only.
Is there a queue at Sainte-Chapelle?
Yes. Airport-style Palais de Justice security applies to every visitor, pre-booked or not. The official site advises up to 30 minutes wait on busy days.
What is the best time to visit Sainte-Chapelle?
Book the first slot (9:00 AM) and arrive 20–30 minutes early. For the rose window, afternoon sun from the west is more dramatic — a sunny mid-afternoon slot is better if that is your priority.
Is the combined Sainte-Chapelle and Conciergerie ticket worth it?
Yes, if you plan to visit both — saves roughly €4 versus two singles. The Conciergerie is in the same complex.
When is Sainte-Chapelle free?
The first Sunday of the month, November through March only. No reservation required, but security queues are longer those days.
The glass takes 45 minutes to read properly. Book your slot ahead in spring and summer and arrive early. Notre-Dame is a 10-minute walk east — free with a reservation. Planning multiple museums? The Paris Museum Pass covers Sainte-Chapelle and is worth checking before you book.
